Dear Reader, This story is comprised primarily of photographs, letters, newspaper articles and most importantly, the writings of noted nineteenth century daguerreian photographer, Jeremiah Gurney, taken directly from a journal he began in April, 1895. The journal was recently discovered, found buried under a pile of Gurney materials gifted to the New-York Historical Society by the photographer's great-great grandniece, Miss Elizabeth May Possons. -tmc
